Usually engine and chassis tuning lead to great expenses, and they
can be ventured by limited number of people or take a lot of your time
and attention. These changes can be rarely seen by amateurs, though
everyone wants to have a special status. To do that one can go another,
more interesting way – order exclusive accesories or pattern an original
picture – make an aerography. There is a lot of information about
accesories in mass media, that’s why we won’t touch this topic.
History excursus in brief…
In 1878 someone Abner Peeler
constructed air brush – aerograph. Of course, this device was very
primitive in comparison with modern hi-tech instruments (the inventor
himself was a jeweler, and was engaged in painting during his leisure
hours). The invention created a furor: rather plain by sight, it
represented a sewing needle set into a system of tubes and was connected
up with a hand compressor.
Abner painted pictures for 3
years and turned on serious interest in new sort of fine art. In 1881
Liberty Walkup company became interested in Abner Peeler’s invention and
accrued the rights from the author at a fabulous price 700$! Inventor
provided himself a well-to-do life. In 1883 daughter enterprise of
Liberty Walkup called Rockford Airbrush was founded. The company was
engaged in advancement of production created with the airbrush (aerography)
method. Little by little enthusiasm for aerography acquired larger
scales, and the new technique of patterning bursted into such branches
as advertisement, photography, typography.
There were racing teams who
first started using aerography technique – they patterned pictures of
hard-won cups, information about sponsors, pictures of animals embodied
rapidity of this or that bolide. Soon sport moneymakers realized that
every square centimetre can make an additional profit as an advertising
area, and now almost all information we can see at sport cars is
commercial and usually advertise this or that brand. However, soon
aerographic pictures were changed to bright stickers – they are easier
to change from one to another race. And only brand names sometimes are
patterned by means of aerography.
In spite of banishment
aerography from sport, its development wasn’t stopped. At the beginning
of 1940-th firms and studios which patterned pictures by airbrush method
on common cars appeared. And now aerography grows, and our attention is
attracted not only by ornamented cars, but also by mobile phones,
computers, monitors, snowboards, bicycles, motorcycles, helmets,
refrigerators and even furniture. One is dazzled because of such plenty
and wants to make every object unique, to impart style and mood to it…
Now we can confidently say that artistic aerography irrevocably came
into our life.
Here are questions we have
already answered. If you couldn’t find answer to your question – ask it
at the
forum.
- Do you provide photographic quality or the picture looks like a
sketch made with chalk on fence?
-
Using aerograph, one can really reach photographic quality, but
is this work interesting from artistic point of view? Anyway, we provide
high quality of pictures, but one should reach artistic expressiveness,
and not precise photographic reflection. It’s not a secret that animals
rarely look the same as at the pictures, but that change that artistic
image gives attracts more than just a photo in a catalogue of nature.
But if our client insists on precise picture (for example, he wants to
see someone’s face or native landscape), we execute the task in
workmanlike manner.
-
What about working out the design
and how much does the sketch costs?
-
Cost of the sketch is included in cost of the whole work, and we
can’t pick it out as we can’t pick out cost of preparatory and painting
works and materials. Every project requires special approach and special
technology – it can’t be counted in advance. But on the basis of the
sketch we can fix cost of the whole work, and it is always submitted
with client’s approval.
-
Is it possible to estimate how the
car will look like with the new appearance in 3D programme or just to
see a picture?
-
Yes, of course – every sketch is presented for the client in a
digital format, as a picture. Sometimes the sketches are drawn by hand,
but it’s the highest level of difficulty. Sometimes it’s important to
see three-dimensional picture. Deadlines and price in this case are
stipulated individually.
-
Someone worries about possible
problems with motor licensing and inspection department. Is it necessary
to re-register the car because of the picture? [this is the specificity
of Russian laws]
-
No, this field isn’t regulated strictly: the main thing is to
save 70% of initial colour of the car and not to imitate specific colour
of exclusive transport.
-
What’s the approximate price of your
work?
-
Everything depends on the difficulty of the picture. Sometimes
aerography of a phone can cost more than 8000 rur, sometimes the whole
door of a car can cost cheaper. Feel free to phone and ask! It’s always
a pleasure for us to talk and advise what will be better and cheaper.
Sometimes we can keep within driblet and create an astonishing image.
The idea of client is always very important in forming of the price.
-
You have a notion “price for the
detail from …”, what does it mean?
-
It means that it will be very difficult to make the picture
cheaper. The reason is in the fact that we don’t only want to earn, we
also need special paint with special qualities. Unfortunately, it’s not
manufactured in Russia – we have to buy these expensive materials
abroad. Minimal price in formed from the price of materials.
-
If I want to dispose the picture at
the door and at the wing of the car, have I pay for two details?
-
In each case we submit this item with client’s approval, but
anyway we prepare and varnish the whole detail, or two details
regardless of what we are going to paint – a bee or Panorama of Borodino…
Because it’s not a sticker above a rusty spot, it’s a work of art which
requires not only artistic skills, but also strict observance of
technology.
-
Do you plan to open aerography
courses?
-
No, now we hire only professional artists who have their own
manner and style of painting. If necessary we teach them technique of
work with aerograph, but artistic views is obtained after a good school
and long practice. We are not ready to provide amateurs with it. Maybe
in future we’ll get back to this idea…
-
If I see a picture, are you able to
draw it for me?
-
Yes, we are – if it’s not copyrighted. The main reason of turning
to us for many people is the opportunity to have favourite picture
along.
-
If you paint bad/something else/I
won’t like the picture, will you do it anew for free?
-
Of course – if there will be impartial reasons. Everyone can make
an error. About “I won’t like the picture”… to avoid disappointments we
prepare a sketch, looking at which one can estimate future picture.
Every client then confirms the sketch and signs it, so we don’t start
the work without final confirmation. That’s why we had never got
problems like that.
-
Do you guarantee that the picture
won’t chip or darken?
-
The guarantee for our works is 1 year. Paint we work with
provides 87% light stability for 10 years. It’s even more that common
car paint provides. Unfortunately, for good reason, mechanical injuries
of the paint are not included in the guarantee.
-
What demands do you make to the
surface to pattern a picture?
-
The covering should be good, but we apply the blind eye to little
defects – we have to probe everything. But we are not engaged in common
repair of cars, so if the surface is unsuitable for aerography, we’ll
warn the owner right away to avoid disappointments.
-
Will you come to my garage?
-
No problem, but only for drinking beer.
All works are carried out in a special box which answers dust and
humidity requirements. Otherwise neither we, nor client will be
satisfied with the results of our work.
